HistoryOut of the fire!...Little did we know the blessings that would result from the devastating fire that destroyed the Elmwood Christian Church on that cold February night in 1994.
In an effort to raise money for a new building, congregational members rented a small building on Main Street to hold "an extended garage sale." Much to our delight, the customers kept coming and just as importantly, quality donations. Church members have been committed to a philosophy of selling these items at a reasonable price. They have also designated local service groups who receive a percentage of the profit. Run almost entirely by church volunteers since may 1995, Bits & Pieces has been transformed (in our opinion) into the best thrift store in southeast Nebraska. The store changed drastically from its meager 700 square foot beginning. In October 1999, We moved next door into a newly remodeled building that houses over 3,000 square feet of high quality, second-hand merchandise. The addition was large enough to invite other individuals to consign items. In 2011, the original store was also remodeled and expanded. Today, we have over twenty vendors, who offer an interesting mix of gift wear, antiques, and crafts. |
